My 50-minute cabaret show stars La Fulminante, a character who speaks in improvised tongues, which are translated in real time using multimedia resources. Using a language that doesn’t exist, she will always be foreign. Re-contextualizing pornographic video chat, striptease, and reggaeton to challenge the power relations that are manifested in the mass media, La Fulminante uses strategies of guerrilla communication to interact with mass media archives, political propaganda, historical activist speeches, and cultural monsters- with the final purpose to criticize political impunity as well as clichés related to the mainstream media’s usage of a hyper-sexualized female body.
This cabaret has 10 acts, in which different visual resources are used such as closed circuit video, real-time video mixing, performance, erotic dance, a projected video collage of found footage (narco novelas, news reports, presidential speeches, etc.), two original songs, and electronic noise. Below is a breakdown of scenes for La Fulminate Cabaret.
